Public Allies Indianapolis
A legacy of leadership. A network still growing strong.
About the Program
From 2009 to 2025, Public Allies Indianapolis prepared hundreds of emerging leaders for careers in public service, nonprofits, and social change work. Through a 10-month AmeriCorps apprenticeship, each Ally served at a local nonprofit, participated in rigorous leadership training, and built lifelong connections within a vibrant, equity-driven community.
The program has sunset for now, but its impact lives on in communities, organizations, and the hearts of over 250 local alumni.

Alumni Stories
-
Public Allies was the first place I discovered my voice—and the power it holds. Before the program, I was passive and afraid to lead, paralyzed by fear of failure and rejection. But Public Allies helped me own the journey of my story and use it as fuel to become an agent of change. It gave me the confidence to lead—not just with ideas, but with authenticity and conviction.
Bernard, Class 5
-
Public Allies Indianapolis led me to law school and a career as a public defender. Undoubtedly, the lessons I learned in AmeriCorps Public Allies almost ten years ago, such as resiliency, self care, conflict resolution, and so much more, are the skills that I use most frequently in my day to day. Without Public Allies, I would not be who I am today
Samuel, Class 7
-
My time as a member changed my life and brought me the best friends and pushed me into a community that challenges me, excites me, but most importantly loves me for who I am. I wouldn’t have any of this without my time serving.
Brittany, Class 4
With Gratitude to Our Partners
Over 100 nonprofit organizations across Indianapolis hosted Allies and shaped the future of local leadership. We are deeply grateful to our partners for opening their doors—and their hearts—to the next generation of changemakers.
