Public Allies' MLK Jr. Day Celebration: Conversations With a Dream

Public Allies' MLK Jr. Day Celebration: Conversations With a Dream

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a holiday to honor and commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. MLK Jr. This is a day of interaction, education and tribute. Again this year, Public Allies (PA) hosted our Conversations With a Dream. This is an open mic community event. Each year we are fortunate enough to have folks share their poetry, song, and stories and this year was no different. We had a room full of old faces and new, with many PA alumni from various classes in the space. We started the event by listening to a piece of MLK’s "I Have A Dream" speech, followed by performers who came and shared their talents. To make things even more special this year, all those who performed were either a current ally or an alum! The audience also had a chance to participate by writing down their thoughts on boards placed on the outskirts of the room, reminding ourselves and others the dreams we have and how we will achieve them.

We understand that every day is a day of service, and making a personal commitment is what’s needed for civic leadership. May we continue to serve humanity and advance MLK Jr.’s teachings. Conversations With a Dream was a successful event and we are thankful for the support of our community to make this happen. We look forward to next year!
